Great Product and Great Price (2010-06-20)
I had been researching indoor grills and was going to get a George Foreman. I visited Amazon and QVC to read other people's reviews of the indoor grills. I came across this grill and it had better ratings than the George Foreman's did. I saved over $60 by purchasing on Amazon compared to QVC and got the color I wanted. I have grilled hamburgers, thin chicken breasts, steaks and cuban sandwiches. I have not tried the griddle yet. It is amazing how quick it cooks. I learned that you need to have all your side dishes and condiments ready to go before you put the meat on the grill. If you use pre-made hamburger patties, they will be done in less than three minutes. As far as clean up goes, I find that once I'm done eating, the grill plates are still warm, but not too hot to handle. It is way easier to clean when they are still warm than when they are cold. Also, the grill marks on the top plate are not as deep as the bottom, so I now just put the seasonings on the top of the meat for easier clean up. Since the food cooks so quick, I have yet to have any grease go into the cup. The meat comes out so juicy since it cooks so quickly. My only complaint would be the amount of smoke if you use any type of marinades. I usually have to turn on my stove vent. The top is hinged so it can adjust to the thickness of whatever you are cooking. You will need to have a spatula to push the back of it up so that it does adjust to the thickness of whatever you are cooking. I almost lost my cuban sandwich when I pressed down because it did not automatically adjust like I thought it would do. Overall I am very pleased with it. I am using it a couple times a week.

I love it! (2010-03-25)
I have been using this grill since December. I had a Foreman, but hated to use it because it was such a pain to clean. Had to kind of hold it on the edge of the sink to wash the non-removable plates. I ordered the Waring and wondered why I waited so long to replace the Foreman! It is so easy to cook burgers, steak, pancakes. . . And, even better, it is a breeze to clean. The plates are removable--even supposed to be dishwasher-safe although I have only washed them by hand. Just let them soak a little, then pretty much just wipe clean! I like the heat settings and ability to cook so many foods on it with the hinged lid and different plates. No complaints whatsoever!

Love It!! (2010-02-20)
This is our first indoor grill so I can't compare it to any other brand.
Suffice to say we are finding it to be both convenient and easy to use.
We have cooked the usual burgers and steak along with asparagus and broccoli.
Everything cooks up quickly. I love the red color too. The only real drawback
is the top lid rests on the meat and the grease splatters on the counter top. Putting a
cup towel underneath has solved this problem. Other than that, we use it several
times a week and love everything else about it. I would still recommend it to
anyone considering whether or not to purchase. Just wish I had bought it sooner!

Works well, albeit very messily (2010-02-07)
Our faithful little George Foreman grill was ailing. The nonstick plates stuck; it didn't seem to get as hot as it did before. As though reading my mind, Amazon brings up this Waring grill in the gold box, and I decide to give it a chance.

Does it work? Yes! Are the nonstick plates suitably slippery? Yes. Does it cook the food properly? Absolutely. Is the adjustable temperature a neat feature? Sure, although it's not that big of a deal. Does it do a good job grilling things like chicken breasts, sliced eggplant, and other low-fat entrees? Mmmm, indeed it does.

Does it create an incredible mess on those occasions when you want to cook thicker, inherently greasier entrees, like bratwurst? And how.

One of the advantages of the Foreman series is the way the whole cooking surface slopes gently downward. This results in any grease and oil running quickly and efficiently off the cooking surface and into the waiting container.

The Waring features a completely level cooking surface, with just a notch cut in one corner that allows the oil to drip out into the cup. Thus, as fat liquefies and leaves the food, it tends to stay where it dripped, rather than run in any particular direction. Of course, since it's a very hot cooking surface, the oil bubbles, hisses, spits, and sends out a 360-degree spray of greasy spatters. And since your meat is, by design, propping the grill open, those spatters have absolutely nothing stopping them from coating your surrounding counter top, and oftentimes the nearby floor. Cleanup is made easier if you cover the counter with paper towels beforehand, but that's kind of a wasteful hassle.

So, honestly, we'll probably get rid of this messy thing and look into another Foreman. That slope makes a heck of a difference.

This item looks great and cooks great. With fixed grill plates it isn't the easiest to clean and it is quite expensive when you realize that it has no fancy controls, timers, indicator lights, etc. You can probably get the same functionality for a lot less money if you don't care about industrial design.

This Cuisinart Griddler is great! I've had it for about 3 months now and I use it almost every day. As a single man I need to be able to make quick and easy meals. I use my Griddler primarily as a Panini press. Now, every sandwich I make is grilled on my press. It makes a world of difference. It's a GREAT buy!

This contact grill-panini grill is great! We moved into a 3rd floor condo without a place for outside cooking but since we bought this grill I can't say we miss it. This grill heats up extremely well, something my several George Foreman grills didn't do. We like it for steaks and hamburgers, my husband says the ones I do are as good as he did on the grill. It is also very fast; we grill thin steaks in 2-3 minutes; it took 10 minutes on our gas grill. We also like it for grilled sandwiches like Reubens; the bread comes out crisp and the center is completely heated through. We like the temperature choices. It doesn't have removeable plates - nothing to break! They wash off easily; I put wet paper towels in it and let it sit while we eat. I would recommend it to anyone - look for it in the warehouse stores as well.

This Griddler is a nice unit (2010-04-01)
My George Forman died in action and sadly I couldn't find the exact unit. Well, visit Amazon and start the search and I located this unit. I already have cuisinart around the kitchen and I was hoping for the same level of quality and value. This works well and I use it often. The only issue I've found is it really mashed down my panini. I'll watch it closer next time as it may have been my error. It's high quality, looks good and is a good value.

I am very satisfied with this grill. It is very compact, easy to operate and easy to clean. It works perfectly for a single person - grilling burgers, hotdogs, chicken cutlets etc. I was not really interested in the panini recipes.

I bought this to replace a George Foreman grill & it is fantastic! It is easy to use & clean. Heats fast & evenly. I cooked a pound of center cut bacon & had no problems with the grease overflowing like a previous reviewer. I would definitely recommend this over other counter-top grills.

Perfect for a Small Kitchen! (2009-10-07)
This is one of the key items in my cookware collection! It's relatively compact in size so it fits well in a small storage space and on limited counter space. The dual cook options (grill vs. griddle) are great to have in one piece of equipment and it does a great job in all of its' functions!

The perfect indoor grill (2009-09-27)
My daughter has a very expensive indoor grill and this is better in my opinion than hers because it is so easy to clean. It equals hers in every other respect. I have cooked salmon, pork loin roast, chicken breasts, steaks, vegetables--it does a terrific job. It is compact and very easy to use. Someone complained because the grease holder wasn't big enough for containing the grease from cooking 8 ounces of bacon. I dare say that if you cooked that much bacon in a pan you would have to pour off the grease before you finished. If you are cooking for a crowd this is probably not for you but then neither would my daughter's grill work well for a crowd. This is the perfect size for empty nesters.

Superb, just could learn one thing from the Breville. 4.5 Stars! (2010-05-08)
This grill is awesome, that is all I can really say. This one attracted me because it has the flippable cooking plates so that there's lots of versatility. Originally I was looking for a panini grill and an electric griddle, but after investigating electric griddles and using some at friends houses, there just didn't seem to be any good ones out there. Every electric griddle I've seen all just won't cook evenly because they are huge in surface area without having enough heating element coiled underneath to heat the surface properly, but not so with this wonderful machine. I was used to using The Breville BSG520XL Panini Duo 1500-Watt Nonstick Panini Press, which is a great panini press, I'll compare the two for you.


Major Pros:

Temperature control dials:
You get full control of your cooking, unlike the breville machine which simply turns on when you plug it in and must be unplugged to turn off and it set to turn on hot, the Griddler has the ability to cook on low or high. I found this much better for cooking paninis because you can cook them on lower temps to make sure the inside of the sandwich is all hot and the cheese is melted, etc. then you can finish it off on hot to put those nice grill marks on the bread.

The Griddle function:
Not only is this a great panini grill/contact grill, but I'm sure it is the best electric griddle on the market. When you unlatch the top end to make it all lay flat you can fit around 10-12 slices of bacon on the machine or about 8 small pancakes, so it's not a terrible downgrade in size from your average electric griddle. The best part is that IT COOKS EVENLY! Unlike all the other griddles out there that have one big circular coil that leaves the center unheated the Griddler has full coil coverage on both sides for perfect cooking!


Minor Con:

The Lack of a Lock/Adjustment switch on the swing arm:

The only way that the breville out does this machine is that it has a switch that allows the top surface to move and lock into positions that are more accommodating for a variety of sandwich thicknesses. If you cook a thick sandwich with the Griddler it will take a little bit of extra effort to make it turn out perfect, because the griddler will want to squish it a little more on the back side instead of coming at the sandwich from right above.

Also, the same switch on the breville locks the machine shut so that you can pick it up with one hand by the handle and allows it to be stored flat against a cabinet or countertop wall, the Griddler will always have to be moved/stored in it's normal sitting position which takes up more space.

All in all I definitely wouldn't trade my Griddler for any other panini grill or griddle. It's an awesome machine.

Another tough Cuisinart product (2010-05-03)
We use this little performer to cooking eggs, grilled cheeses, sausage & onions at a farmers market using market products. Compact, tough and we particularly love the high capacity drip tray and ease of cleanup. I'll edit this later with a longer-term report.

Panini (2010-04-29)
This panini press/grill/griddler is an awsome machine. I use it at least once or twice a week, sometimes more frequently because of it's versitility. I love the grease catcher which works perfectly. You are also able to 'turn it off' before pulling the plug - so no spark.

Easy and Fun to Use (2010-04-26)
I tried to buy this from Amazon and thought they hadn't shipped it after waiting a very long time for delivery. Amazon did ship it - in fact, twice. It turned to be the post office's fault ENTIRELY for not notifying me for months. Sorry, Amazon. I did buy this locally. Though I like the quality of my Cuisinart Sandwich Grill, it doesn't have the floating top of a panini press, so unlike the Griddler, the Sandwich Grill squashes the sandwiches unevenly. I decided if I was going to buy a panini press, I'd get one with removable plates. The plates on the Griddler are VERY quick and easy to remove and replace. I bought this mainly to make panini sandwiches and it works great! It cooks evenly and is simple to use. Other than grilling sandwiches, I've heated leftover pizza with it. I'm looking forward to grilling portabellos, salmon, quesadillas and more. It helps keep me from being tempted to buy dinner out of the house and doesn't heat up the kitchen, which is a huge plus in the summer.

my friend brought this little magic box to my house for mexican night to make quesadillas. i was amazed at how quick it would cook them up. he showed me a few other quick snacks and sandwiches to make and i was hooked. i ordered mine a few days later and i love this sandwich press. i had it for 2 months and use it non stop.

Not hot enough (2010-04-15)
Really doesn't get hot enough to toast and heat effectively. Bottom element is not as hot as top and you end up turning it over to get a even brown to a sandwich.

Leave it to Cuisinart to come up with a fantastic, very versatile multi function appliance. As usual, and as with all Cuisinart products. This unit is very well built, easy to use, and clean up's a breeze.

The unit has a heavy duty calrod coil (heating element) that insures even heat distribution for both the upper griddle/grill, and lower cooking area. The griddle plate itself is a good size, and comprised of a very good thickness/weight. Therefore NO griddle cool spots. Considering all the options this unit has to offer, and the amount of food that can be prepared at one time. Due to its sleek contemporary design, it truly does not take up a lot of counter space. If you enjoy cooking & entertaining. This is a must have appliance for your kitchen.

This grill is great!! It is big enough to cook a whole meal on it, the skewers are so easy to use and it maintains the heat perfectly.

Could be better (2009-06-15)
I've discovered that there are two models of this machine that (at first) look the same. You don't notice the difference until you take the removable plates off. The model I bought (at Costco) has a heating element that only goes around the perimeter of the unit (both top and bottom) - The other model has elements that have a more even distribution of heat. (I have a friend who has this model) Mine said "Griddler Gourmet" on the box, his came under a different name. I've discovered that in order to make sure food cooks evenly - you have to allow the grill a full 10 minutes of preheat time. The other model cooks evenly with less preheat time.

Both models have the same problems with grease runoff - the tilt of the machine doesn't really allow for liquids to drain in the little cup - they mostly stay on the grill unless you are cooking something with a LOT of fat. Also, any fat that clings to the top of the grill will run down the back of the unit on to the counter (I keep a towel behind the unit while I cook for this reason - not touching the grill!)

Aside from that - I like cooking on the unit. I've had it about 6 months now. It works well for grilled sandwiches, searing steaks and Ahi Tuna, cooking burgers, chicken breasts, sausage and more. The removable plates clean up nicely. I've used the grddler dozens and dozens of times and have yet to see any wear on the plate coating. I have been careful not to ove- scrub them.

If it weren't for the poor drainage, I would give it 4 stars.

Multiple grills in one and easy cleanup, mostly (2008-07-18)
I bought this grill to replace a different brand that still worked but had worn-out grill plates. This model allows me to remove the grill plates for cleaning and I hope that means the surfaces will last longer. The plates are also replaceable so I don't have to dispose of the grill when the plates wear out (like the other brand). It is reasonably compact to use on my counter and the top grill portion is short enough that it doesn't hit the bottom of my cupboards when opening it (had that problem with the other brand).

Am pleased with the unit so far, although I will need to practice a bit with it to learn how best to set temperatures for things like pancakes or other items more sensitive to temperature choice than steaks and burgers. The manual gives a number of sample recipes and suggested settings, most of which have worked as expected. (Pancakes: still tweaking.)

The fold-open feature is especially nice when I need to cook steaks for four, or otherwise need a larger cooking area. I like having that option, even if it does take up a bit more space on the counter in this mode.

The only real negative I've found is that after grilling something like burgers in the closed position, the top grill plate will drip grease on the counter when the unit is opened. It isn't a big deal, but it can be more of a mess than one wants. I've dealt with it by placing a rectangular glass plate from an old microwave under the grill. Makes cleanup quicker.

I would not hesitate to recommend this grill. Has been a pleasure to use and seems well-made.

Love my griddler! (2008-05-10)

Pleased with this one (2010-04-29)
I'm very pleased with this product. It cooks well and cleans up easily. Does a great job on chicken breasts - leaves them juicy without drying out as much as cooking on a gas grill. Tried salmon fillets and over cooked them a bit - user error on that one. Will take awhile to figure out how long to cook certain items. One bonus is that you can usually insert an instant read thermometer into the meat without opening the grill.

Great panini grill (2010-04-26)
I absolutely LOVE this griddler. I really did a lot of research before buying it and am happy to say this little machine lives up to all its hype!! It is really well made,easy to use, easy to clean-and my husband is extremely happy with everything we have made. I'm thinking I will get 2 more for wedding gifts for this summer.

Wonderful Product (2010-04-25)
This griddler is well made. It has a good solid feel to it and it looks great on my counter. I use it to make grilled cheese sandwiches and for burgers and fish. They all come out great and clean up is easy. This is a much nicer product than one of the plastic ones that are available everywhere. The stainless steel is very nice, Highly recommended. Cuisinart always comes through.

I use this all the time! (2010-04-19)
I waited to review this product because I wanted to try it with several different foods. So far I have tried it with steaks, pork chops, boneless chicken breasts, and Panini's. All of which came out great. I did notice that with the meats, you need to season lightly because if the heat is too high, the seasoning will get dark or burn. The steaks came out with beautifully seared grill marks, and they stay very juicy. The pork chops I brined first, and they came out very juicy as well.

The good thing about using this grill with the pork chops, is that they don't curl up when you are grilling, because of the fact that you have the top grill to press it down. So now I always use this to make pork chops. The boneless chicken breasts came out great too. I usually pound them to make them even, then season them lightly and grill them. I think they come out perfect in just five minutes. I usually grill about 5 at a time and put them in the refrigerator, and use them to make chicken salad or just slice them up and put them in a regular salad to add some protein. They always come out great. The Panini's however, are out of this world. I find that if you brush melted butter on top of the Panini bread, they come out fantastic. Better then any Panini I've gotten in any restaurant.

The grill itself does heat up very quickly, which is a good thing, and I didn't have any problems with fat running off the grill like some other people have, and I use it all the time.

I have to say that I have been very impressed with the Cuisinart GR-4V Griddler. Since acquiring it, my family has really become spoiled on the wonderful array of fun panini type sandwiches we can make with the grill. What a great way to use up leftovers!

I have cooked entire meals on the grill - including steaks, veggies, and grilled bread. It does a reasonably good job at this, but is not as good as it is with making different kinds of panini. The grill does not really get hot enough to sear and cook steaks particularly well.

I have also used it to grill fish fillets and it did a better job of this, since that does not require the intense heat that getting a good char on a steak requires.

The overall design of the unit is very good - the grilling elements are easily removable for cleaning, and the entire unit folds up into a pretty compact "cube" that can be stored in a cupboard. The drip tray is easy to remove, though it has become a bit loose in its track and will slip out when I pick the unit up by the handle to put it away. Another niggle is that the drip tray has some right angles inside of it that can be tough to clean congealed grease out of with a paper towel. It easily goes into a dishwasher for cleaning (if you have one that is!)

On the counter, the unit doesn't take up much space (I have a tiny kitchen and it fits in just fine!). It is big enough to do two generously sized sandwiches at a time, which frankly for our family of four is plenty. I'm happy to have a smaller grill that takes up less space, but is still good enough to feed the whole family.

Other reviewers have mentioned the strange controls, so I won't dwell on them here, other than to say I also can see what the difference is between using the "grill" dial or the "griddle" dial - they both seem to do the exact same thing.

The only other panini grill I have used is a much larger Breville unit which was quite expensive (I bought it for a friend as a gift) and much larger. It had some additional features such as the ability to set the angle of the grill surfaces in a supported manner (the Cuisinart relies on the contour of the food being grilled to set its angle, which "presses" the food a bit. Soft foods like a grilled cheese sandwich can get pretty smooshed).

Overall, highly recommended for both the Quality/Price Ratio and the compact size and functionality

Love this grill! (2010-03-06)
I've tried different table top grills in the past and have never really been impressed, this grill however has absolutely won me over. I use it all the time to make paninis and grilled cheese sandwiches for my little one. ( So much easier and healthier than pan grilling them in butter) We often enjoy eating steak or chicken salads and this grill makes it so easy to grill the amount of steak or chicken we need. This grill heats quickly and even though the grill plates are not removeable it is still relatively easy to clean.

Excellent grill!! (2010-02-11)
I have had two George Foreman grills in the past and recently ordered the Curisinart GR-2 express grill...it is by far the better product in all areas. It heats/cooks evenly and quickly, one of the nicer features of this product is the ability to regulate the heat temp. I prefer the non-removable heating plates for just this reason. Clean up is not a problem if you immediately place a few damp/wet paper towels on the grill after cooking. The steaming effect helps aid in the clean up process. I highly recommend this product.

Terrific Purchase! (2009-10-15)
My husband loves his panini maker! Leftovers can easily be incoperated into a tasty sandwich! With time, we will explore other creations using the Cuisinart Griddler Express.

Works well, cleans up well with patience (2009-10-05)
This press has worked well for us, allowing us to make incredibly crisp and fresh sandwiches of many types. Crumbs and melted cheese that drip onto the surface seemed to come off easily once the press cools. If you just place a wet, soapy washcloth in the press after it has cooled and allow it to sit for 10-20 minutes, even the stickiest stuff seems to come out very well. We have not used it much as a grill for meats (just chicken & shrimp) so perhaps really sticky baked on BBQ sauce might be an issue, but it has not been one for us.
